First Day of School - 3rd Grade

Today was the first day of third grade! I can't believe it. What's even harder for me to swallow is the fact that, when asked, Braiden said he DIDN'T want me to walk him to his class this morning. I did anyway, because I HAD to have my "first day of school picture with his teacher". He said it was embarrassing, but his teacher said that she had all of her pictures from each year in school, so I didn't feel so bad. I'm happy to see him becoming independent, but it'll always be hard for me to "let go".

Boys and their Toys

Sunday, August 24, 2008

Today's the official last day of summer and my boys had to go out and run their remote control monster trucks behind the house. Braiden wanted me to come out and watch how much dirt and stones they kicked up. (Yeah for me) They are building apartments behind our house, so they've demolished all of the trees and there's a lot of dirt mounds and rocks everywhere. I'm glad that they have their "things" they do together. Gotta love my boys!

Girls Hangin' Out + Kids

Saturday night, Braiden and I went over to Darnell's for a little girlie cocktail hour (plus kids). Brett had a poker game, and her husband went to a football game, so it was a perfect time to have some girl time. The kids played upstairs. If you can't figure out what the kids are doing, they are playing CSI. Lauren and Braiden were the investigators and Alex was the dead guy wrapped in a blanket with only his feet hanging out. Apparently he played that role too long, because he ended up falling asleep inside the blanket. They are so funny.

Go Fly a Kite

Today was our last Friday of Summer Break and we had our friends, Lauren and Alex with us. It's a beautiful day here, kind of cloudy and a nice breeze. We all decided to go out and fly kites. The kids had a blast! I'm glad that our last day of break could be spent with a summer "staple" of kite flying.

Summer's Ending :-(

Today was Braiden and my second to last day of summer. I let him pick where he wanted to go to lunch. He wanted McAllister's Deli, so we had a nice little lunch together. Tonight we all went to meet his teacher at open house. She seems like a really sweet girl and Braiden knows several kids in his class, so he was happy. Third Grade already!! Where has the time gone?! Where has summer gone?! At least that means that Fall is coming (my favorite time of year).

Finally I'm a Blogger!

August 18, 2008

I've finally joined my friends in creating a blog! It was much easier than I thought, well so far anyway. Summer is winding down so I'm trying to do a few last minute fun things with Braiden. Today we had his friends, Lauren and Alex, for the day. We decided to go tour some of the race shops and go to the NC Auto Racing Hall of Fame, up in Mooresville. I really enjoyed myself. I think that the kids did too. We accidentally went to the wrong place while trying to visit the Petty shops and ended up at the actual shop, not the visitor center part. The guys there were so nice. They let us in to see the place and gave the kids each a sponsor decal that had been removed from a car that had already raced. They were mounted on this nice piece of aluminum. A definite one-of-a-kind souvenir! We ended our trip by stopping at Friendly's for lunch. None of the kids had ever heard of it or been there, so it was a real treat for them (and me too since I haven't been to one since living in Ohio)! I think a "Happy Ending Sundae" was a nice way to end our day :-)
